MECE 4371 - Thermal Fluids Lab (Love)

THIS IS UNCERTAINTY CLASS!

In this course we learn all about uncertainties and errors, and maybe a little about thermal fluids along the way. We also learn a lot about how fluids and in particular, thermal fluids, is about fudging the numbers. There are so many numbers with no dimensions.... and yes, even THOSE have uncertainties...

In this semester, Dr. Love was NOT on her A-game, but if you pay close attention to the lecture videos (I downloaded all that were available to download), this should be one of the easiest classes outside of Tech Comm.

All classes were held on mIcRoSoFt TeAmS, which is an abysmal platform IMHO. All the assignments were in different places and the relevant material was just damn hard to track down. Hopefully they don't use it after this semester or they're a bit more organized for you!

STRUCTURE:

5 labs.

exam 1.

about 4-5 applied thermal fluids assignments. (that we never did)

exam 2.

The first half of the course, you will complete 5 labs (Miracle Thaw, Liquid Crystal, Forced Convection, Natural Convection, Forces on a Cylinder). You will then have the midterm quiz (exam1)

In the second half of the course (after all the labs are completed), there are several assignments to complete, however, we turned in none of them. Not sure why except for this semester was wintergeddon (Sp21) and we lost an extra week, but other than that idk. Subjects like, compressible flows, rotating equipment, and heat exchangers would have been talked about. When she dropped the compressible flow assignment, it seemed like you just had to follow directions and do everything step by step then turn it in (not much thinking involved).

EXAMS: There are 2 "exams" in this course (both were take home tests with a week to finish them). One is labelled as a "midterm quiz", but it is exam 1. A lot of it was conceptual except for one problem that had many parts (available in dropbox link). We also had a whole week to complete it and turn it in so it was a take home test.

For the second exam, I hope to GOD you get as lucky as we did. You basically need to know how to Google and know your favorite color... Seriously, there were questions like, "What topic was your favorite?", "What topic were you hoping to learn about?", etc...
