MECE 4364 - Heat Transfer (Dr. Dong)

He takes attendance with a sign in sheet that passes around at the start of class. If that tells you one thing it's that no one would show up unless it were part of the grade. 5 pts to you final grade. No quizzes.

EXAM ADVICE: They are not much fun. They are also LARGELY ~75% conceptual and definition questions. Also, some true/false at the beginning of each exam. Second exam is usually the worst one. For the calculation parts of the exams, the questions are based on homework problems AND example problems in the chapters of the book.

Homework Solutions: For my class and at least the previous semester, all homework solutions are from the 7th edition of the book. These are included in the dropbox link under..."Books".

Dong is a derivation professor. He LOVES to derive stuff, it's basically all he does. Trouble with that is, unless you live and breathe heat transfer and PDE, it makes zero sense. He really makes it hard to relate derived equations to the real world. I've also heard (because I never did go to his office hours) that he's an elusive creature. Sometimes he won't show up to his office hours, or he will evade questions by "needing to be elsewhere" or something about his research lab needs urgent attention... excuses excuses.

A helpful website for Thermo, Fluids, Heat and Mass Transfer: Thermopedia

Also, and MOST importantly! Dr John Biddle and his absolutely fantastic youtube series for heat transfer from CalPoly Pomona: Link to class playlist

I would personally like to thank Dr. Biddle for caring about what he teaches and making heat transfer not terrible and making it actually make sense. You got me through this subject hands down!
